A Pragmatist's View of Body-Centered Coaching
March 24, 2015
by Suzanne Samson
Last week, I was working with a client who is co-authoring a research paper with a colleague. His frustration with his co-author had cropped up in a number of recent sessions, and the previous week we had identified a pattern of feelings that come up for him in their interchanges.

Since I first took Marlena’s tele-trainings 7 years ago, and more recently as a Certified Body-Centered Coach, I have become increasingly grateful that I can coach my clients in this way. It is heartwarming to witness the response from my clients on the impact body-centered coaching has for them.

It makes such a difference when we ensure that all of the avenues are explored in the decision-making process. For a decision to be solid, it needs to be both congruent and sustainable. This means there is an alignment with the body, mind, and spirit. There is no disconnection between what you think and how you feel.

I am so grateful today! The morning air was so fresh, unusually crisp for being this time of the year in Texas. I almost got a sense of Swedish fall in the air! Are you playing to Win? Or Not to Lose? It is a new, and sometimes uncomfortable, experience to spend so much of my focus on intentionally growing my business and stepping into success. My passion is bringing coaches and clients into the wisdom of their bodies; it’s how this powerful methodology of Body-Centered Coaching can serve the coaches that I work with, and the clients they serve.

I made a commitment to myself to spend more time playing and resting this summer. As you can imagine, with the launch of my school this year, I have been working hard! Because I love my work, however, it often feels like ‘playing,’ and I sometimes forget that I really do need actual, dedicated, play-time. If I am paying attention and tune into my body it tells me clearly when it’s time to slow down.

Intuition is an integral part of many coach training programs and philosophies, and it is integral to Body-Centered Coaching. It is also a concept, and skill, that many coaches struggle with.
In one of my recent tele-trainings, one of the participants asked whether it was possible to ‘build the intuition muscle’, and if so, how? It led to a rich conversation in the call.
