as a Resource for Change:

Hello and Welcome:
Are you using the body’s wisdom to full advantage in moving your clients through change? Are your clients more short-term than you would like? Would you like to learn more about incorporating the body’s wisdom into your work to deepen your clients’ experience?
The body is a powerful resource for moving a client through life change. The body has a natural intelligence and wisdom – and you, like many coaches and other helping professionals, may be unwittingly leaving it OUT of your work.
We live in chaotic times and your clients are constantly faced with making, and adapting to, changes in their lives. You may find that these things happen:
Your clients come up with an intention or plan that sounds good but they don't follow through. They keep talking around the same issue without making real progress.
- Your clients come up with pro and con lists for the decisions they want to make, and yet they feel insecure about moving forward and are still unsure of what is the right choice for them.
- Your clients have limiting beliefs that they just can’t get past. You’ve tried everything you know, and yet a shift has not occurred.
- Your clients report stress-related body signals and symptoms, and you don’t know how to work with them to deepen an understanding of what’s happening. Their fear takes over and initiatives are undermined.
These things happen because, as professionals, we’ve often been trained to question the mind for the answers and then expect a change in behavior to occur. An important ingredient that is often missing in our training is the use of the body’s natural intelligence. You may be experiencing some of these doubts:
- You may be concerned about the information and insights you are missing by not including the body in the conversation.
- You may think that this knowledge is only for certain gifted people who are already in touch with their bodies and have a greater understanding than you do.
- You may have heard phrases like “move your clients from head to heart” or “get them out of their heads” and you don’t personally know how to do that, even though you agree that it’s a good idea. You have not been taught the skills and techniques to take them there.
- You may ask your clients what their gut hunch is or what’s happening in their body, and be at a loss of what to do next.
...help clients connect with their truths
in a
deeper and more profound way.

"As someone whose strength as a coach is providing insight and clarity, mostly through words, I understood, but didn't really "get", the power of body-centered coaching until I took Marlena's classes. Marlena is a wonderful, gentle, patient and supportive teacher and role model. I recommend her book and classes to any coach who wants to learn how to help clients connect with their truths in a deeper and more profound way."

Introducing the
Body-Centered Coaching Method
By body-centered coaching, I mean you invite the client to become more aware of their body and then share with you the thoughts, feelings and sensations that arise. In that way, you bring forward more information that deepens both of your understandings of what is truly happening. That’s because your body responds to everything you think and feel and is willing to speak.
Let’s face it – the bottom line for most of the changes that clients want to make are in relation to wanting to feel more abundant in their lives. They want to feel more abundantly happy, fulfilled, joyful, content, satisfied. And the sooner we look at what is getting in the way to create more of what is wanted, the better.
You may not have realized it, but the body is an excellent resource for moving a client through life changes. As clients include more of their body’s wisdom in daily living, suddenly they have a greater capacity to slow down, pay attention and make better decisions in order to embrace change. They begin to experience the joy and excitement of actually seeing the things they want happen. There’s a better quality of life that clients will experience when they learn to become more mindful and self-aware.
...have moved forward into their own greatness as a result.
 |
"Working with Marlena and a team of coaches and watching the process unfold through the live demonstrations is an exceptional 'real life' learning experience. As a coach, I was able to learn about the principles, see them in practice, take them back to my clients and then watch as they began to access their own bodies as a new, deeper source of information. My clients have been surprised by this new information they have and have moved forward into their own greatness as a result."

There is a connection between mindfully noticing body signals and an inner peace that leads to less stress and a greater confidence and better health and well-being. When coaches and helping professionals mindfully include the body’s wisdom in the conversation, a calmness and present sense of self occurs for both the client and the practitioner.
You want to get to the heart of the matter with clients. People have a way of knowing that comes from their head. And what I know is that when they realize that a gut reaction is yet another way of knowing, that happens to be a body experience, they become more curious about what else they can tap into, and trust. When they begin to experience body-centered coaching for themselves, what emerges is that they too want to connect with head and heart.
So, the opportunity to bridge the gap between head and heart becomes a more natural outcome. When someone accesses their body, their whole experience of what they know and understand about themselves and others shifts. Not only do they connect more fully with their way of being in the world, they begin to tap into and trust their own body as a resource.
You may not have made the connection between learning body-centered coaching skills and attracting more clients and keeping them in your practice longer. What I’ve seen is when you include the body’s wisdom in your work, clients go to a greater depth of experience, have more insights and receive more value from their sessions. They become more committed to their own process and they want more. You become a magnet for attracting more clients!
...allowed my client to take deeper dives.
 |
"I was searching for a way to add more depth to my coaching and these techniques have allowed my clients to take deeper dives than I had imagined. I have been working with a client group for over 3 years; I used one of the techniques and watched two of the team members connect at a level even they were surprised by."

The practice of body-centered coaching recognizes that body, mind and spirit are different aspects of our whole being. For clients to feel peaceful, these aspects need to be inter-connected. By integrating the whole, clients make better decisions and experience greater fulfillment in relation to their endeavors.

I like the integrity her work conveys.
"As a counsellor and coach, I found Marlena's Body-Centered Coaching workshop to be invaluable.
Marlena's experience and skills as a Hakomi Trained Therapist and her training as a Co-Active Coach offer a unique blend that has resulted in a powerful methodology with application to a variety of disciplines in the helping professions.
Using the body as a source of information for change requires stillness. Marlena's personal style is gentle, humorous and patient. She conveys a sense of calm rather than urgency providing a consistent role model for her work.
I was particularly impressed with her impeccable sense of timing. She listens deeply to her clients' needs and has the ability to motivate and inspire people in the direction of their own potential with insightful and sometimes provocative probes. She does not impose or direct but rather guides and facilitates change.
Marlena trusts her clients' inner knowing and gently moves them to a place where they can trust that place within themselves.
I like the integrity her work conveys."

Time after time I was blown away by the powerful impact as Marlena demonstrated the skills. Surprising new information became available when the body was included in the conversation. The possibilities are staggering. And in my deepest heart, I know this will take me to startling and unexpected new places."

Here is a sampling of what you
will learn when
you
make the
commitment to join me and other
like-minded individuals for 2 days
to learn and
expand your
body-centered coaching skills.
1. Begin Within: Mindfulness & Reflection
You will experience how being mindful and reflective has a profound affect on your level of self awareness and your ability to be present. Being present is foundational to be who you truly are...to come home to yourself.
The more you are self-aware and in touch with your body experience, the more easily you can encourage your clients to have an awareness of their mind-body-spirit inter-connection. You become more connected with your true center when you shift away from ordinary awareness to self-awareness or what I call ‘being-awareness’. By learning the skill of mindfulness and the practice of centering, you will experience more balance and stillness. By being in the present moment you will have more access your intuition.
2. Empowered Beliefs
Limiting beliefs are the filters through which we respond to life - creating our behavior, thereby creating our reality. These are habitual reactions we have that don’t serve us and we have some repetitive thoughts that need to be brought to our attention. The practice of body-centered coaching offers a 7 step process for transforming disempowering beliefs and old patterns of behavior into empowering beliefs and behavior.
What I’ve seen is, when clients have limiting thoughts, there is a corresponding tension in the body. The tension patterns hold valuable information for the client. As clients move beyond the limiting belief and choose to embody a more empowering belief, tension in the body is relieved and the mind is clear. They then move forward to make better decisions and reach their goals.
This work has enriched my life and coaching.
 |
"Marlena's book and classes offer profound but simple insights into the importance of mindfulness and deep listening in our lives and coaching. The wealth of information that our body can reveal to us and our clients is incredible. Marlena is a master at being able to tap into that reservoir of information. The learning for me came from witnessing her calm, patient, mindful approach to tapping the body's wisdom, always letting the client lead the journey and having complete trust in where that journey leads. This work has enriched my life and coaching."

3. Overcoming Con-fusions
Fusions are the way we have fused two ideas/things together in our mind, believing they go together. Using hand and arm movements, this technique will assist you, and your clients, to separate the two ideas or concepts that they have fused together. By bringing something subconscious more fully into awareness, change is possible. You will learn the technique and be able to unhook the two ideas. Clients will experience a true sense of freedom by identifying and releasing their fusions.
Clients also have collapsed distinctions or fusions that may act as limiting beliefs. An example would be “If I get too successful, people won’t like me any more.” Amazing as it may sound, by using a few special hand movements, clients can free themselves from the limiting impact of those thoughts.
I am amazed how quickly my energy shifted...
 |
"Marlena’s Body-Centered Coaching demonstrations are a very powerful way to experience where our emotions live in our bodies and how we can consciously chose to change negative emotions and instead anchor more positive and beneficial ones for ourselves. I was amazed at how quickly my energy shifted from feeling anxious and powerless to powerful and peaceful."
Angela Neumann, MA, CEC, PCC

4. Making Congruent Decisions
If you want to help your clients be more committed to their goals and decisions, you’ll have more success by including body in the process. That’s because if the mind sets a goal that is out of alignment with the body and the spirit, the results will be less than optimal.
What I’ve seen is that when there is congruence between what the mind thinks and how the body feels, decisions are more likely to be made with a commitment to follow through. As a practitioner, you will delight in the magic and forward movement that occurs.
...methods that add depth and precision to my work.
 |
"I signed up for the Somatic Coaching teleclass after hearing Marlena explain her techniques on a free call. I was very impressed with Marlena's presentation and clarity. The Body-Centered coaching class more than met my expectations. Marlena is a great instructor/coach, easily able to work with the members of the class on any level. Previously I was intuitively using a body-centered style. Now I have methods that add depth and precision to my work allowing me to help clients shift intractable blocks, and the process is gentle and very effective."

5. Embody Key Words
Along with empowered listening, it is important that you listen to the language your clients use. They may use language in the form of metaphors, word pictures and other words or phrases which are expressive. Often the language they use is representative of how their body is feeling and contains valuable information about how they experience the world. This technique can be used both as a way of being with a client going through a difficult situation or as a way to celebrate an accomplishment with them.
My clients are amazed at the insights
that they take away from each session.
 |
"It was wonderful to participate in Marlena's Body Centered Coaching teleseries and witness her Mastery in this coaching process. Each week I would be excited to go to the call and even more eager to use the techniques with my clients. I always felt like I would walk away with a treasure from every call. I have used her techniques to help my clients change disempowering beliefs, tap into resources and included various of her exercises in my enneagram workshops. My clients are amazed at the insights that they take away from each session. The wisdom of the body is a powerful resource and Marlena has opened my eyes. This wisdom is in your body and is with you all of the time. Fabulous work! Thanks for this wonderful opportunity and training."

6. Yabbut Factor
Clients often have dreams and goals that they state...and in their next breath they say (or think) "yeah, but I will never get that done." We will use the "yabbut factor" exercise to help clients discover their yabbuts and move beyond their habitual limiting thoughts and perspectives.
For skill learning, the basic design will be:
Each day we will focus on two body-centered techniques. The format will consistently look like this:
- An introduction to the skill
- Personal application of the skill
- A demonstration of the skill
- Feedback, discussion
My personal teaching style is to demonstrate. Talking “about” body-centered coaching can only go so far...it needs to be witnessed and experienced through the body. During the training, I will demonstrate all of the chosen techniques. There is something for everyone. As a participant you will have the opportunity to:
- Be my client and experience masterful body-centered coaching.
- Be a witness to the power of body-centered coaching as it is demonstrated.
By the end of the training you will:
- Witness demonstrations, engage in discussion.
- Learn from the expert how to use the wisdom of the body to offer a greater depth of learning for your clients.
- Have ample opportunity to ask questions and get to the core of body-centered coaching techniques.
- Experience mindfulness as a way of being in touch with your own body.
- Learn to read your own body signals and gain more access to your intuition.
- Acquire new ways of listening, to yourself and your clients.
I've already noticed positive impact with clients ...

"Marlena's Body-Centered coaching class is well-designed, masterfully implemented and packed with powerful new learning. Before attending the class, I occasionally intuitively tapped into the wisdom of the body during coaching sessions. Now I have concrete practices with proven results to interplay with my intuitive nudges. I've already noticed positive impact with clients and am delighted to be of ever-greater service. Thank you Marlena! Your warmth, preparation, graciousness, ease and appreciation added much to the experience."

Why you should learn from me...
From 1991-1993 I attended a 2-year Hakomi Training (Body-Centered Psychotherapy) and was taught by the founder of the method, Ron Kurtz. I then attended Coaches Training Institute (CTI) where I became a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach and I attended their one year Leadership Program. I integrated the trainings into a method that recognizes that the body has a natural intelligence that can be tapped for more insight and a greater depth of learning. I adapted proven psychotherapy methods to make them coach-like.

"Marlena does an excellent job outlining the material as well as demonstrating it during the class. The course adds a great compliment of skills to being a creative and resourceful coach.
Marlena lays out simple and clear Somatic Coaching techniques to use with clients, using the
co-active model as a frame. I find that the Somatic Coaching techniques work really well with a full spectrum of clients from my executive coaching clients, to entrepreneurs and artists.
My clients are grateful for the grounding in using a resource they always have available to them - their body. Clients can be thoughtfull and learn to listen to the wealth of wisdom and information their body is offering. Somatic coaching is like treating the body as a library - there is a lot of information available, and you can add new books/information. Grounding in our body allows us to stay present when stepping forward.
Somatic Coaching helps cut through and get past the story, so the storyteller (the client) gets good coaching."
